For basic functionality, Project and Visio 2007 are fully compatible with Windows 7, Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010. However, there are some advanced scenarios which you may want to consider:
- Project and Visio 2007 have the older Office user interface, while Project and Visio 2010 have the new “Ribbon” interface, giving users a more consistent look and feel with the other Office applications
- Project 2010 was re-architected to work better with Office 2010 applications. For example, you can cut and paste structured lists from Word or Excel 2010 directly into Project 2010, and vice-versa.
- Project and Visio 2007 have no special interactivity with SharePoint 2010; you can save files in SharePoint, but that is about it. Project and Visio 2010 have significant new SharePoint functionality:
- Project Professional 2010 has the ability to synchronize with SharePoint 2010 task lists, allowing for team collaboration and reporting on project work (this is separate from Project Server)
- Visio 2010 Professional and Premium are able to author Visio Services diagrams so that users can publish dynamic, data-driven diagrams within SharePoint
- Visio 2010 Premium has the ability to author visual SharePoint 2010 workflows
